Reading Comprehension Bonanza! Day 1: Making Predictions

Mar 21 2016

Reading Comprehension Making Predictions
Lately I have been getting a lot of requests for strategies to teach reading comprehension to students on the spectrum. So, for the next several days, Infiniteach is going to create free autism resources to tackle reading comprehension.

Building Strategies and Teaching Students How to use Them:

In order to create effective readers, we need to build strategies, and teach students how to use them. We are going to be using a framework similar to this. Each day we will present a strategy that has an explainer page, then an activity to support and teach the strategy.

Today’s strategy is prediction. Helping students think about what is coming next will help frame their thinking for what they are about the read. The great thing about a prediction is that it can be confirmed or denied. Read over the explainer page with your student, practice with the worksheet, then generalize with reading materials in your classroom!
